We are currently seeking a Multi-Skilled Operative to join our team in the Bonded Wadding Department at our Mirfield site. This is a hands-on role, working closely with the production team to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality products that meet our customers’ expectations.

About the Role:

As a Multi-Skilled Operative, you will rotate across various roles within the department to support production, cover for absences and holidays, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Initial training will focus on the Inspector and Hanger Operative roles.

A reasonable amount of overtime will be expected, including some weekdays and weekends, to support production during peak periods or staff shortages.

Key Responsibilities

General Duties:

  • Comply with all Health & Safety regulations, policies, and PPE requirements.
  • Report any issues or concerns to the Shift Manager and support problem-solving efforts.
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting and maintenance reporting.
  • Ensure accurate handovers at shift changes, including maintenance updates and operational status.

Inspector Duties:

  • Operate sections of the production line safely and efficiently.
  • Perform quality inspections across all machines and record results.
  • Prepare machinery at the start of each shift and ensure it operates within specification.
  • Adjust settings within tolerance to maintain quality and performance.
  • Work from the online production system, booking and tracking orders.
  • Support fibre flow and minimize waste during production runs.
  • Provide cover for the main inspector during breaks.

Hanger Operative Duties:

  • Operate and monitor fibre blending machinery according to production specs.
  • Check current job requirements and prepare upcoming fibre blends.
  • Coordinate with machine operators to ensure smooth fibre supply and efficient changeovers.
  • Maintain accurate fibre usage records for traceability.
  • Keep hoppers continuously running and perform basic maintenance (e.g., clearing jams).

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous experience operating machinery in a factory or production environment is preferred.
  • Forklift truck driving experience is an advantage (not essential).
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive work ethic.
  • Good communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Ability to adapt and respond quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work across different roles and shifts as needed.
